versity.net/sessionPop.cfm?confid=152&proposalid=14344\nAssigning stewards
and responsibilities for our various data domains introduced us to informat
ion governance. This worked relatively well for defining metadata and autho
rizing access to data domains. There is a steward for vegetables, one for s
pices, one for proteins, and two for noodles. When we asked for their goods
and put them in a pot to make something special, that’s when governa
nce got interesting.\nThis presentation explores two projects to illustrate
our approach to governance for integrated data solutions. The first projec
t mixes student data with our financial management system. This could help
us calculate the cost of a course and potentially the cost of an education.
\nThe second project was more ambitious and glued together data from more t
han a dozen systems of record. This project opened doors to data privacy, d
ata quality, and policy concerns.\nThis presentation covers what we tried,
how we fared, and what we learned.\n
